Tech Talent Hiring Managers - Initiate First Contact !

Several posts appeared in my LI feed recently on the unengaging way in which tech talents are presently being solicited by employers. Here is tip #1 to be used by hiring managers on how to best attract top tech talent in our shortage era.

Tech Tip #1: Connect Directly

If you have the luxury of a short list of CVs / top candidates in hand, make the first contact and differentiate yourself. Reach out! You need to remember that tech talent - especially software developers - receive several pokes a day from headhunters and employers. They are desensitized by the uninterrupted courtship because they receive too many pleas for appeal. And most of these opportunities either don’t fit, are not the right level or are of no interest. Having the hiring manager contact them directly - via any channel - will generally trigger their interest.  And more often than not, they will respond simply because 1. you are NOT a recruiter/HR/headhunter  2. they can have an in-depth conversation on the tech and challenges and 3. they get a direct, initial contact with their (potential) manager.  It also shows the candidate that they are more than a cog in the wheel and that you are truly interested in their profile. You’re already projecting as though they are part of the team… not “just” another role you need to fill.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes!
